What happens when you get 2048 in the game?

A win screen appears acknowledging you reached the 2048 tile. On 2048.now you can dismiss it and keep playing - Your score continues accumulating and every merge past 2048 is worth more than all earlier merges combined. Stopping at 2048 leaves significant score on the table.

What Happens When You Reach the 2048 Tile?

When a merge creates the 2048 tile for the first time, a win notification appears on screen. On 2048.now it includes a congratulations message, your current score, and a button to continue playing.

Should you keep playing past 2048?

Almost always yes. The score formula means that a single merge at the 4096 level adds as many points as the entire first phase of the game. Stopping at 2048 leaves the majority of your potential score unearned.

The table below shows how much a single merge is worth at each tile level:

Merging to 2048: +2,048 points
Merging to 4096: +4,096 points
Merging to 8192: +8,192 points
Merging to 16384: +16,384 points

Each level doubles the value of a single merge. Reaching 8192 from 2048 can add more points than it took to reach 2048 in the first place.

On 2048.now leaderboards

Ranked games are scored on your total game score - Not simply whether you reached 2048. Dismissing the win screen and continuing is effectively required for competitive play.
